Give the Keys Up; Driving Drunk Isn’t Worth It

Sometimes, our sense of judgment slips and we make decisions that aren’t terribly sound. While some of these are innocent mistakes, driving drunk is not innocent nor a mistake. It’s a reckless disregard for the safety of those around you and should be treated with the utmost seriousness. Here are some reasons why you should never ever even consider driving drunk.

This could be the only item on the list as far as we’re concerned. When you drive under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants, you are unable to control your vehicle properly. It delays your response time, which could be devastating in a moment when you need to react swiftly, such as a deer suddenly darting out in your vehicle’s path. Plus, you could easily injure or kill yourself and others.

Legal consequences

Driving drunk is illegal and the consequences can increase depending on the circumstances. These include how fast you were going, how intoxicated you were, and whether you had children present. Even the lightest of charges for a DUI can still result in stiff fines and affect your driver’s license. At worst, you could be looking at years in prison.

Insurance rates skyrocketing

Insurance companies insure drivers on the basis of trusting them to make sound decisions related to driving. Therefore, when your insurance provider finds out you have a drunk driving charge, they’ll be sure to increase your premiums. This isn’t them being mean. Someone who drives drunk is more likely to get into an accident and will be more of a financial burden on their insurance company. For the sake of saving money in the very long-term, you should not drink and drive.

Lost time

A drunk driving arrest might happen in an instant, but the aftermath lasts a much longer. From having to deal with court dates, filing insurance claims and license suspensions, your DUI could loom over you for years. Does that sound like something worth gambling on?

Driving drunk is something you should avoid at every possible cost. Should you make the unfortunate decision to do so, you will need to enlist the best legal counsel possible. Talk to an attorney if pulled over for a DUI. They will work with you in order to achieve the best possible outcome for your case. The best decision you can make, though, is not to drink and drive in the first place.
