The hunting season is what every hunter looks forward to. During this time hunters are full of anxiety, waiting patiently to shoot their target. Even though the hunting season is full of fun for those who like outdoor games, it is important that you take safety as the top priority. Just like the saying: prevention is better than cure.

Here are some deer hunting safety tips that can ensure a hunting trip with no danger.

1.  Your firearm is one of the important gears for hunting, and you need to be careful with it. You should point the barrel of your firearm in a safe direction. In fact, it is most times advisable that you keep your gun unloaded when you are not using it. One mistake most people do is relying on the safety of their gun. You should treat every firearm as if they are loaded.
2. Use the right ammunition. Since there are lots of slug guns available, choosing the proper one should be a priority. Also, when you purchase the best scope together with your slug gun, you will minimize the probability of any danger you could encounter while hunting.
3. Ensure there are no obstacles in front of your or between you and your target before firing any shot. Also, handle your slug gun with care when it fails to fire.
4. Before you drive a vehicle, jump a ditch, jump a fence, climb a tree, or stand, ensure your gun is not loaded.
5. While handling a firearm before or during deer hunting, ensure you don’t use drugs or alcohol.

12. If you are going before or after daylight, ensure you carry torchlight. You would be able to see any danger around and possibly avoid it.
13. Don’t go and hunt in areas you don’t know anything about. Ensure you are familiar with the area before going there to hunt.
14. Ensure you carry a first aid kit with you. It will help you take care of any wounds or injury that might occur while hunting before you get to the hospital.
15. If you are going to hunt from a tree stand, ensure the tree you are using is healthy and alive. Be sure there are no traces of damage or rot.
16. Use a high-quality and secure safety harness. Remember, all it takes is one fall to get injured or even end your career as a hunter.
17. Always inspect your safety harness, ladder steps, and tree stand to be sure everything is secured to the tree tightly.
18. If possible hunt with a friend and ensure you take a communication device along. It can be a walkie-talkie or cell phone.
19. Beware of places that can lead to injury. It is advisable that you don’t rush. Whether you are walking or climbing the tree make it slow and steady. You will be able to know places that are slippery and dangerous.
